Question

Hello,

I've had many problems with my eyes since November. I had detached retina in both eyes. Right eye - buckle fitted - no problems since. In the other eye, I had buckle and long term gas, when the gas started to go I got PVR which was followed by vitrectomy surgery with silicone oil which was successful for seven months until it was removed a few weeks ago.

Retina slightly detached so I had the oil put back in and was thinking I had no problems until now tonight and last night as I lying awake terrified, knowing that my retina is detached again.

When I close my eyes, I see a large bubble which gets smaller and some times very small swirls.

I know it's difficult to pacify me for tonight but is there anything else that could be causing this? I am 99% it's the retina. This is my second night awake but I will go to an ophthalmologist tomorrow as it's the weekend.

What do you think? Will my retina ever stay attached? Can detachment occur with silicone oil present?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Answer

Thanks for your Question

Laser to retinal holes and tears can prevent retinal detachment under silicon oil. Most likely what you experienced it is not retinal detachment, but you need to visit your eye doctor to confirm that.
